Itinerary

The magnificent villa of Poppea Sabina, the second wife of Emperor Nero, is famous all over the world for its fine and elegant frescoes preserved intact after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 a. D. Not completely uncovered, the villa is located in the modern city of Torre Annunziata, named Oplontis on an ancient map of the area, a wonderful place that in the past was on the sea. It was most likely to be the main residence outside of Rome, where the beautiful empress spent pleasant holidays and received guests enjoying a panoramic view on the magnificent bay of Naples.

The Antiquarium of Boscoreale is an archaeological museum located near to Villa Regina, a farming villa at the foot of the Vesuvius in the countryside of Pompeii. Thanks to the fertile soil it was possible to cultivate grapes, olives and cereals. The museum is the best place to discover the daily life and routines of the ancient Romans as it is home for all the archaeological finds related to food, agriculture, cosmetics, animals and plants originating from all the villages buried by the catastrophe of the 79 a. D.
