Itinerary

On the highest point of the city, the Capodimonte hill, the National Museum is located in the homonymous Palace surrounded by acres of trees and plants. It was commissioned by King Charles of Bourbon in 1734 as one of his many residences that he built in order to house the vast Farnese collection that he inherited from his mother.
In the big wood where he used to hunt, the same king and his wife started to manufacture porcelain that has become famous worldwide for the ability of its artisans and the special techniques they used.
Today the museum is considered one of the most relevant in the world for its paintings and decorative art collections.
The Farnese Gallery boasts more than two hundred pieces signed by Italian artists including Masaccio, Tiziano, Raffaello and Caravaggio. In the Royal apartments, it’s possible to admire some of the original furniture and almost three thousand pieces of porcelain.
