If you love history and are looking for a great way to spend a few hours, I highly recommend taking a tour of Herculaneum with a local expert. I had visited Pompeii several years ago and although both cities were destroyed by the same volcanic eruption, Herculaneum is unique in its preservation. Finding Roberta, our guide, made the tour truly special! His understanding of the history, archeology and life of the people who once lived there, along with his ability to explain it to me and my family, brought Herculaneum to life.

We had a fantastic day visiting both Pompeii and Herculaneum with Roberta. She is exceptionally knowledgeable, personable and passionate about history. He navigated the crowd of groups very well! When it was time for lunch in Pompeii, he sat us down in a restaurant, signaled to a waitress he obviously knew, and we were served immediately and had a wonderful meal. I was in Naples with some friends from Lecce who were coming there for the first time. Wandering the alleys of the Neapolitan city is fantastic, but doing it with a guide is even more so.
